Former Stags loose forward returns to Rugby Southland setup

Former Southland Stags loose forward Hua Tamariki, left, has joined Rugby Southland as its new community rugby manager, while Flynn Thomas is a development officer, and Scott Eade, right, has been appointed pathways manager.

Former Ranfurly Shield winning loose forward Hua Tamariki has joined Rugby Southland as its new community rugby manager.

Tamariki, who has replaced Bob Cullen who departed in December, played 37 games for Southland between 2srcsrc5-1src. It included the fixture against the British & Irish Lions in 2srcsrc5 and the Ranfurly Shield win in 2srcsrc9.

He comes from a policing background and was most recently with Worksafe NZ.

Tamariki said the community rugby team at Rugby Southland were passionate rugby people, and he was excited to help general manager Steve Mitchell “foster the game we all love”.
