Hopefully, Waratahs No.10 Tane Edmed is getting some good advice on his future as he comes off contract in NSW. That advice should be, “You’re better off sticking here and fighting with Ben Donaldson and Will Harrison than going to the Force or Rebels” (although possibly not the Brumbies).
The No.10 showed some classy touches against the Force on Saturday, but his development is clearly going to be better served by staying with Darren Coleman’s side, which is on the up. Injuries and loss of form will make sure that all three playmakers get their chance in the next few years.
The reality is that the Waratahs need him, too, if they are to develop into a genuine force.
2. Australia needs these Kiwi matches.
Super Rugby AU was great. It came at the right time, and it created a real buzz. It was a success. However, this year may be showing that Australian teams need the New Zealanders (which has been the argument of the high-performance types all along).
I don’t know how many gears the Reds used against the Rebels to get the win on Friday, but it wasn’t all of them. Here’s an example. Jordan Petaia threw a looping pass to Suliasi Vunivalu in the first half that stayed in the air for two seconds (we timed it), yet the winger still had the time and space to catch the ball and beat his man all ends up.
That just won’t happen against the Kiwis, and the likes of Vunivalu need to be put under more pressure to get them ready for the Test arena.

3. The Waratahs have a fighting chance against the Chiefs.
The injuries and suspensions are piling up at the Chiefs, Highlanders, and Hurricanes. The Chiefs have already lost Brodie Retallick, and there are now question marks hanging over Josh Ioane, Brad Weber and Shaun Stevenson.
They have lost their early season momentum. But that’s not why the Waratahs can head into the game with some belief. Even befor
