Experienced fullback Stuart Hogg will captain Scotland in the 2020 Six Nations tournament.

British and Irish Lions fullback Stuart Hogg says he feels “very honoured” to captain Scotland in the 2020 Six Nations series.

Scotland coach Gregor Townsend named Hogg as skipper on Wednesday, ahead of Rugby World Cup squad captain Stuart McInally.

Hogg – the most experienced member of Scotland’s squad with 72 test caps – has captained his country once before, in a 2018 shock defeat to the United States.

The Exeter Chiefs player is the latest in a long lineage of British and Irish Lions fullbacks to captain Scotland, including the aptly-named Ken Scotland in the 1950s, Stewart Wilson in 1966 and Gavin Hastings, who led his country in 20 tests between 1993 and 1995.
