The Chiefs have ditched co-captains with coach Warren Gatland naming All Blacks loose forward Sam Cane as skipper for 2020.
Cane has been co-captain since 2016 and retains the role but officially as outright skipper.
The 28-year-old has previously led the Hamilton-based side with Aaron Cruden, Charlie Ngatai and Brodie Retallick and he was confirmed as captain on Thursday.
“He is an experienced campaigner who is well respected by the players and management,” Chiefs coach Gatland said in a statement.

“We believe it was important to identify one person this season to lead the team and that individual would be supported by the team’s leadership group.”
Cane has played 111 games for the Chiefs since his debut in 2012 and has won 68 caps for the All Blacks.
He led the Chiefs last year with Retallick, who departed for Japan after the Rugby World Cup, but injuries meant they played together only twice in the final matches of 2019 – their 59-8 win against the Rebels in
