Kiwi coach Dave Rennie’s hopes of clinching a European rugby title before he leaves to coach the Warriors now hang by a thread.

Rennie’s Glasgow Warriors side were held to an exciting 31-31 draw by English Premiership leaders Exeter in Glasgow in a European Champions Cup Group B match on Friday night (Saturday NZ time).

Exeter clinched a quarterfinals berth, leaving Glasgow in second place and sweating to see if they can qualify through the “best runner-up route”.

However,BBC Scotlandreported: “Even a bonus-point win in [Glasgow’s] final game against Sale Sharks will almost certainly not be enough to claim a best runners-up spot.

The winners of the five European Champions Cup groups advance to the quarterfinals and are joined by the three runners-ups with the highest points aggregates.
