Gabby Logan appeared to make an unfortunate slip-up during the coverage of BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

TV personality Logan was presenting the ceremony alongside former England striker Gary Lineker in Aberdeen.

She was congratulating Khadijah Mellah on becoming the first hijab-wearing jockey to compete in – and win – a horse race when she led Haverland to victory in the Magnolia Cup at Glorious Goodwood.

But Logan made an honest mistake when she accidentally said ‘jihad’ instead of ‘hijab’ before quickly correcting herself.

The slip-up was noticed by fans on social media, watching the ceremony on television.

But some also leaped to her defence, with one tweet saying: “People giving her s*** seriously need to get a grip.”
