Aformer British and Irish Lions rugby star was forced to move in with his parents after his wife re-mortgaged the family home behind his back, a court heard.

Gareth Cooper, 40, had established multiple businesses to be run by his wife Debra Leyshon, whom he said became “very secretive” about how they were performing. 

Mr Cooper, a scrum-half who represented Wales, was defrauded out of more than £1 million as Leyshon took out loans without his knowledge while pretending the ventures were “thriving”, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

The ex-sportsman even found out his wife had re-mortgaged the family home and four other properties. His financial difficulties led him to move in with his parents and borrow money from their pensions.
