Dan Biggar has always been up for the fight. When the Wales fly-half signed for Northampton Saints in the autumn of 2017, the East Midlands club were spiralling down the Premiership.

Fifth in 2016, seventh in 2017 and as low as ninth by the summer of 2018 when Biggar joined.

The problems continued in Europe. After losing 29-20 in the 2016 Champions Cup quarter-finals to eventual winners Saracens, the Saints finished bottom of their pool in the next two years, winning three games out of 12.
