World media has been quick to salute the “ruthless” All Blacks after they defeated Wales 40-17 in the World Cup bronze final in Tokyo on Friday night.

BBC writer ​Gareth Griffiths said “New Zealand demonstrated a more ruthless edge” and Wales did not capitalise on territory and possession superiority. 

“Four attacks, four tries, ruthless stuff from the All Blacks as Wales missed 21 tackles in the first half, defensive lapses proving a symptom of their World Cup campaign,” he said.

Richie Mo’unga securing the team’s sixth try helped them cement “a comfortable All Blacks win”, he wrote.

The Guardian also opted to describe the All Blacks’ playing style as “ruthless”.

“There is no side more ruthless when confronted by a disorganised defence than the All Blacks,” wrote journalist Paul Rees.

“Wales, playing New Zealand five days after losing to South Africa, were outclassed – but a quality they have honed in the Gatland era is defiance.”
