Bryn Gatland hasn’t been able to play since April because of a foot injury.

Highlanders first-five Bryn Gatland trained with the Welsh team in Japan on Wednesday ahead of the nation’s Rugby World Cup semifinal against South Africa.

The son of the Welsh coach, Warren, is recovering from a foot injury picked up playing for the Highlanders in April and he is aiming to be back playing again in time for next year’s Super Rugby season.

Bryn is in Japan along with his sister Trudi and mother Gabby as Warren prepares for one of the biggest games of his coaching career on Sunday.

It has been reported by UK media that Warren sought permission from Steve Hansen for Bryn to train with the Welsh team, as he is eligible for the All Blacks.
