Joe Root has been sent to Nottingham after Ben Stokes was the first choice pick for the Northern Superchargers in the Hundred.
The teams, colours and first picks were revealed in London with Root and Jonny Bairstow forced away from their traditional Headingley home grounds to Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire respectively.
There is plenty of local flavour elsewhere though with Eoin Morgan signed up by Lord’s London Spirit along with fellow World Cup winning captain Heather Knight in the women’s team.
The Oval Invincibles have claimed both Curran brothers Sam and Tom as well as Jason Roy, while Sussex’s Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan will join up with James Vince at the Southern Braves.
The move to Cardiff is one that Bairstow is looking forward and he’s already been in touch with some of his Welsh pals over in Japan playing rugby.
“I enjoy Cardiff,” said Bairstow. “I made my England debut in Cardiff and I enjoy playing there.
“I love the fact the shirt is red and they’ve chosen me with red hair to lead the start of the Fire’s campaign and hopefully the fans will come out and get passionate about the sport.
“I just messaged a couple of the Welsh lads who are out in Japan with the Rugby World Cup. I sent a photo of me in the shirt to Liam Williams and Jonathan Davies so we’ve had a bit banter about that.
“It is a new competition so there is no loyalty just yet. It is a new start and will feel weird going back to Headingley and going into the away dressing room, but I’m looking forward to it.”
