Scotland simply have to defeat Samoa in Kobe to keep their Rugby World Cup 2019 hopes alive.

Having lost their opener against Ireland 27-3 last Saturday, the Scots know that back-to-back losses will all but end their chances of reaching the quarter-finals by the halfway point of the pool stage.

Townsend has responded to that loss by making five changes, with a new back-row unit in Magnus Bradbury, Jamie Ritchie and Blade Thomson selected. But will they prove enough? Follow live coverage of the fixture below:

And that’s all from me! After what has been a difficult week for Scotland and their fans, finally something to smile about. I’ll see you all soon!

Sean Maitland was awarded a penalty try for his effort after being illegally tackled by Ed Fidow

FULL-TIME: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Just the response Gregor Townsend was looking for from his men. After getting their break in the second quarter of this match, Scotland never looked back. The Dark Blues were threatening every time they surged forward while Samoa, in contrast, lacked any form of menace or danger. Their game was hamstrung by careless handling errors and, for all the physicality of the big-hitters, the Pacific Islanders were ultimately unable to unlock the Scottish defence.

FULL-TIME: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Samoa give their all to try and get their name on the scoreboard as they work the Scottish defence one final time. But the Dark Blues hold steady, with Blade Thompson forcing the turnover at the breakdown a few metres out from his own line. Scotland have victory all wrapped up!

79 min: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Samoa overcook the throw, and Scotland easily claim possession from the back of the line-out. For all their best efforts, it’s been a Samoan display peppered with careless mistakes and frustrating lapses in concentration. A deeply disappointing performance from Steve Jackson’s men.

We have a late Samoan line-out down in the right-hand corner of Scotland’s 22. The Pacific Islanders looking to end on a high here.

77 min: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Fraser Brown makes the break through the centre of Samoa’s defence but his attempted offload is intercepted by Tim Nanai-Williams. Scotland still pushing to their credit. A much-needed performance this after the humiliation against Ireland.

75 min: Scotland 34-0 Samoa (Penalty try)

It’s another penalty try! Ed Fidow’s tackle, in which he led with his knees, was judged to be illegal. He’s shown a second yellow of the match and dismissed for good while Scotland are awarded the score.

PENALTY TRY! Scotland get the bonus point!

75 min: Scotland 27-0 Samoa

Try for Scotland!? Sean Maitland was on the receiving end of a fluid, slick passage of play down the left, sliding in for the corner from a good few yards out. It looks like the Scottish wing, under the challenge of Ed Fidow’s slidi
