Lote Shanley, 8, is an avid sports commentator.

It started with a sidestep around his younger brother, led to a try under the dining table, then a TV appearance, then a meeting with a couple of his idols.

He’s only eight, but Lote Shanley’s love of all things sport is infectious.

Parents Josh and Emily and Lote’s three siblings have long been accustomed to his irrepressible commentary on any sport that happens to be on TV.

All the Havelock North lad wants to be is a sports commentator. For his last birthday his nan bought him a blazer so he could look the part while calling matches at his makeshift desk in the family’s living room.
