There was no euphoria, just realism. Eddie Jones and his England players were admirably wary of drawing too many inflated conclusions from this record-breaking points spree at Twickenham.

Within the squad, there was an acceptance that no victory in August, however emphatic, signifies that World Cup glory awaits in early November. They scored eight tries and reduced Ireland to a rabble at times, but they are well aware that what counts is what happens in Japan this autumn.
