Ruaridh McConnochie will belatedly make his Test debut on Saturday – five days after being named in England’s World Cup squad as an uncapped bolter.

Bath’s former Team GB Sevens player was initially named to start in last Sunday’s tournament warm-up against Wales at Twickenham, which the hosts went on to win impressively, 33-19.

However, McConnochie was withdrawn from the team due to a minor hip injury, which left him wondering whether his hopes of earning selection to go to Japan next month had vanished.
