The All Blacks’ Rugby World Cup jersey for 2019 has been revealed by sponsors adidas.
Well done England and the All Blacks but the Wallabies and Scotland need to go back to the drawing board.
Yes, it’s that time of the Rugby World Cup cycle again – when after four years of hard work and effort the teams release their jerseys to be pored over by the experts.
Stuff’s sport department lacks sartorial knowledge – some wags would say sporting knowledge, too – so we asked a genuine fashionista to look at the Rugby World Cup kits released thus far to offer an opinion.
Sara Munro, from Dunedin-based designers Company of Strangers, was kind to the nations who impressed with their subtle touches, while the new All Blacks jersey got the thumbs-up for a “nice use of texture”.

However, poor old Scotland were booted into touch for a tartan-inspired outfit that “evokes a feeling of wanting to eat some shortbread and have a cup of tea”. Ouch.
Sara’s take on the jerseys are as follows, with the English awarded the winner’s prize for their design.
Sara says: “Very elegant in white, nice and minimal, also love the curved side seam to the front detail so flattering for those hips also note the drop side hem. Very nice.”
Sara says: “Nice one NZ, good use of texture with the silver fern, subtle too.. of course great colour goes with anything black.”
Sara says: “Their use of the traditional kimono patterning on their jerseys is so cool. Also my son said it looked like a superhero costume so that gets extra points.”
