Eddie Jones insists England can win the Rugby World Cup as he ejected captain Dylan Hartley and fullback Mike Brown from his training squad but recalled veteran prop Joe Marler.
“There have been some very good players left out and I spoke to all of them individually. There are a lot of disappointed players out there, but we have a squad here with enough experience to win the World Cup,” Jones said as he named a 35-man roster to prepare for the tournament in Japan in September.
“World Cup selection is a four-year process. We have looked at it carefully and tried to build up a squad that has enough experience, attitude and energy to be winners. I think we have that.”
Kiwis Brad Shields and Ben Te’o made the cut and former Crusaders halfback Willi Heinz has also been included.

Marler has come out of retirement to be named and controversial first-five Danny Cipriani has also been included.
Marler last featured for England against South Africa in June 2018 before retiring due to personal reasons, but he has now reversed that decision.
“I saw Joe during the Barbarians week and he indicated that he had a desire to come back,” England coach Eddie Jones said.
